About Matthew

Matthew Burgess built his trail to the law from classrooms rather than courtrooms at first. He studied English literature at The Citadel, then educated as a lawyer at Charleston School of Law. Those years formed the manner he writes and argues today.

After law school he gained experience at a regional company. In 2013 he joined Coffey, Chandler & McKenzie, P.A. as an associate. That role exposed him to the day-to-day work of a practicing attorney — drafting motions, meeting clients and acting in hearings. It was the realistic schooling that frequently decides how a lawyer operates in court and on the negotiating desk.

Two years later he opened his personal office. In 2015 he founded The Law Office of Matt Burgess, Ltd. Co., where he serves because the principal lawyer. Running a small firm required a diverse set of abilities. He took on client intake, case control and the enterprise tasks that companies seldom talk about. Those responsibilities shape how he allocates time and chooses representation techniques.

He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, licensed in 2013. That club anchors his ability to practice in the state and places his work inside South Carolina’s procedural and moral framework. His practice operates from an unmarried workplace in the state and serves nearby clients who want hands-on counsel.

Colleagues describe Burgess as concise in pleadings and direct in client conferences. He tends to prefer clean writing and steady preparation over theatrical courtroom techniques. Clients can anticipate undeniable answers about dangers, timelines and costs. His background in literature influences how he organizes arguments and tells a client’s tale to a judge or opposing counsel.

Outside the workplace he keeps professional ties thru the state bar. Those connections keep him recent on guidelines, local procedures and ongoing legal training. He balances the needs of operating a company towards the want to stay recent on regulation and process.

Today Matthew Burgess practices law in South Carolina from The Law Office of Matt Burgess, Ltd. Co., representing clients and managing the firm’s operations. His recent practice focuses on serving individual and enterprise clients in South Carolina.
