About Ted
Ted Smith graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Law in 1973 and earned his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 1976. He moved into practice following law school and maintained a steady presence in Indiana's legal network for many years. His schooling at Notre Dame supplied the foundation for an extended career in legal proceedings and rule-making work.
He has practiced beneath the name Ted Smith Lawyer at Law. Over the years he has treated things in state and federal courts and has taken on roles that extend past person cases. He is licensed to practice before the U.S. highest court, the Seventh Circuit, and in Indiana, which has allowed him to seem in a range of boards and manage appeals in addition to trial work.
Smith has been active in litigator circles. He served as president of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association from 2000 to 2001 and holds the title of Fellow within the College of Fellows of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association since 1996. The affiliation history also list him as a Director Emeritus dating back to the late Nineteen Seventies. These roles mirror long service in organizations that represent litigators and private-injury counsel across the state.
His involvement with bar governance and courtroom guidelines has been meaningful. He served on the Indiana Supreme Court Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure from 2003 thru 2012 and was chairperson of that committee from 2009 to 2012. He also sat on the Board of Managers of the Indiana State Bar Association from 1988 to 1990. Those positions positioned him in conversations approximately civil procedure and courtroom management, and he participated in the procedure that shapes how Indiana courts operate.
Smith has combined legal work with public service work. He used to be a trustee of the Community Hospital of Anderson & Madison County from 1995 to 2004 and served as chairperson of that board from 2003 to 2004. For a period he held club in the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, from 1990 till 2016, indicating prolonged involvement in Social Security claims and related advocacy.
Today he continues to practice as Ted Smith Lawyer at Law in Indiana. He advocates for clients in trial litigation and handles appeals, and his record shows sustained engagement in rule-making, bar management and Social Security claimant representation. His current practice focuses on litigation and appellate work in Indiana and federal courts.
