About John L. Calcagni
John L. Calcagni III is an attorney by training who moved shortly into military and federal practice. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Law at Bryant College in 2000, earned his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2003, and attended the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in 2004 for servicemember law education. The mix of civilian legal education and military legal education shaped his early work.
Calcagni started his professional life in public service. In 2004 he served as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York and that same yr worked as an army prosecutor within the U.S. Army. Those roles positioned him inside federal courtrooms and military justice hearings, often handling cases that required quick adaptation to different procedural regimes. He later joined the U.S. Army Reserves’ Judge Advocate General’s Corps in 2008, adding reserve obligation to a growing civilian practice.
In 2009 Calcagni opened his own company, Law Office of John L. Calcagni III, Inc., and has run it since. The private practice allowed him to tackle a broad range of matters. He has licensed to practice in more than one state bars and federal courts, including Rhode Island and Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, and Florida, the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and numerous U.S. district courts throughout the country. That admission pattern displays continuous enlargement from state to federal and appellate work.
His memberships display a deep engagement with criminal protection circles and federal practice teams. He belongs to the National Academy of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Federal Court Bar Association, and numerous state and nearby bar organizations. Those affiliations reflect the mix of trial work, appellate advocacy, and servicemember law he has treated over 20 years.
Clients and colleagues describe a lawyer who moves among areas of practice instead of staying in a single lane. He has knowledge prosecuting and defending instances, and he has worked on matters that required appeals and federal filings. The military background offers him familiarity with court-martial procedure and appeals practice before military courts. His civilian admissions cover trial and appellate venues in multiple states and several federal districts.
Calcagni continues to practice thru his company. He handles criminal defense, federal legal proceedings, appellate matters, and army justice instances as a part of his recent practice center of attention.
