About Jaime

Jaime Aponte-Parsi has spent many years operating on the intersection of corporate law, tax things and dispute decision in Puerto Rico. He constructed his basis at Boston College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Political Science in 1975. He then persisted at Boston College Law School and acquired his law degree in 1978. Those study room years set the stage for a long legal career within the territory.

Fresh out of law program in 1978, Aponte-Parsi joined McConnell Valdés as an affiliate in the corporate and banking team. He treated business matters at a time when Puerto Rico’s financial system and regulatory panorama were evolving hastily. In 1983 he moved into partnership at O'Neill & Borges, taking a role within the company's corporate and tax department. That step marked a shift toward advising businesses on transactional and tax issues on a bigger scale.

Two decades of practice led him to launch his personal ventures. In 2000 he used to be a founding member of Maymi & Aponte-Parsi. Within a year he established Jaime Aponte-Parsi Law Offices, P.S.C., where he became president in 2001. Those moves reflect a transition from giant-company practice to operating a smaller, client-centered office. Over time his practice has combined transactional work, tax counseling and representation in complex business matters.

Aponte-Parsi’s professional work extends past traditional lawyering. Since 2002 he has served as a public arbitrator for FINRA, and he has held the role of chairman in that capacity. That position has kept him lively in securities dispute resolution and given him knowledge in arbitration procedures and industry governance. He is admitted to practice in Puerto Rico and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and he has maintained ties to nearby legal circles over the course of his career.

Colleagues describe Aponte-Parsi as a practitioner who moves comfortably among boardroom negotiations and courtroom-adjacent dispute decision. He handles company and tax things, counsels agencies on regulatory and transactional questions, and sits on binding dispute resolution panels for securities disputes. He continues to steer his regulation office in Puerto Rico and serves as a public arbitrator for FINRA, concentrating his practice on company and tax matters and binding dispute resolution offerings.
