Steven Ballard combines a liberal arts background, a Juris Doctor and superior musical study. He earned a B.A. in records and sociology from Columbia University in 1987. He went directly to receive a J.D. from the University of Georgia in 1992. Later he returned to music learn about and finished a Master of Music in Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory in 1997.

That sequence—arts, law, then conservatory education—has formed how he approaches his work.
