Stephen L. Williams earned his Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law in 1974 after completing a Bachelor of Science at Indiana State University in 1971. He moved into private practice after graduating. His educational background fed into a long profession in trial work and courtroom advocacy.
Williams is admitted to practice in Indiana and Illinois and holds admissions to several federal courts, which includes the 7th Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the U.S. highest court. He has maintained a steady presence in each state and federal boards, representing clients in contested civil things and appearing in trial and appellate settings when required.
His skills consist of certification as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Colleagues and friends have acknowledged his trial credentials thru fellowship and club in numerous professional organizations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Litigation Counsel of America. He also holds fellowship within the Indiana Bar Association and belongs to countrywide and regional litigator groups that target trial method and civil advocacy.
Williams has been active in bar management and professional schooling. He has served as a State President for the American Board of Trial Advocacy since 2004. He has been a member of the Bar Association of the 7th Federal Circuit since 1989 and of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association since 1988. He has had a long relationship with the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, serving as faculty there beginning in 1986. Other memberships include the American Association for Justice, the Illinois State Bar, the Indiana State Bar, the Terre Haute Bar Association, and each the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
He practices from the Williams Law Office, the place he handles matters that proceed to trial and often require courtroom experience.
