About Stephen C.

Stephen C. Harkess constructed his basis in numbers earlier than turning to regulation. He finished a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting at the University of Colorado Boulder in 1990. He then pursued legal research on the University of Denver, earning a J.D. that prepared him for legal proceedings and practice in both state and federal settings.

Early in his career Harkess gained admission to practice in Colorado and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. That aggregate of state and federal credentials has informed the types of matters he handles. He has prosecuted and defended claims in trial courts and has taken appeals where better courts could make clear a disputed legal factor.

In 2006 he assumed the role of managing partner at Harkess & Salter LLC. In that position he balanced casework with company management. He oversaw attorney groups, handled client family members, and took lead roles in contested hearings. The work required both court preparation and the administrative decisions that maintain a law practice operating everyday.

Colleagues describe Harkess as pragmatic within the courtroom and methodical in case preparation. He strategies disputes by sorting details from noise after which mapping a clean route through procedural requirements and evidentiary hurdles. His accounting background informs how he evaluates damages and organizes monetary records for presentation at trial or in settlement talks.

Outside of court, he has managed elements of practice that many small and mid-length firms face: mentoring more youthful attorneys, setting litigation approach, and maintaining client service standards. Those responsibilities have many times shifted the stability of his week from pure advocacy to strategic oversight, but he has persisted to seem at hearings and trials when instances call for it.

Today Harkess remains affiliated with Harkess & Salter LLC. He is licensed in Colorado and within the Tenth Circuit and continues to represent clients in state and federal court proceedings. His current practice centers on representing clients in contested things before trial and on attraction.
