About Scott

Scott Peterson was raised in Montana and took a continuous path into the regulation. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history from Carroll College in 2006. He then completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Montana School of Law in 2011. Those years on campus formed his curiosity in legal proceedings and public service.

He started his legal career in the courts. In 2011 he served as a law clerk to Justice Brian Morris on the Montana highest court. That role uncovered him to appellate procedure and the internal workings of judicial choice-making. In 2012 he moved into personal practice as an affiliate at Thueson Law Office. Two years later he joined Morrison, Sherwood, Wilson, & Deola, PLLP as an associate, the place he treated a range of trial matters.

Peterson is admitted to practice in Montana and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has been a member of the Montana State Bar Association since 2011. He additionally belongs to the Montana Trial Lawyers Association and The National Trial Lawyers, associations he joined in 2010 and 2014, respectively. Those memberships reflect steady involvement in Montana’s trial bar instead of headline-grabbing accolades.

His knowledge spans each trial and appellate work. Time on the state supreme court gave him an appellate perspective. Work in private companies put him in courtrooms and client conferences. He has treated contested hearings, motion practice and appellate briefing. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases and direct in courtroom. The work has required awareness to procedural element and an ability to present factual narratives obviously to judges and juries.

Peterson keeps a practical approach to practice. He balances courtroom advocacy with the office work and time limits that underlie litigation. He splits his time among litigation preparation, appellate filings and client counseling. He currently advocates for clients in civil litigation in Montana and in matters that reach the Ninth Circuit. His practice centers on trial and appellate representation in state and federal courts.
