Robert Tiefenthaler presently serves as a District Court Judge in Judicial District 3B, which encompasses Sioux City, Iowa. His journey started in Breda, Iowa, where he was raised. In 1991, he earned a Bachelor of Science diploma in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota. This foundational schooling paved the manner for his professional legal career, culminating in a law degree degree from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1994. During his time in law school, he labored by interning on the Woodbury County Attorney’s office, which supplied him with valuable insights into the justice system. Following his graduation, Judge Tiefenthaler passed the Iowa bar exam and started his professional legal career as an associate at a Sioux City law firm in July 1994.
His commitment and talent led to a partnership and shareholder position on the company from approximately 1996 to 1999. In July 1999, he took a meaningful step by founding Tiefenthaler Law Office, P.C. This firm focused on various fields of law, including civil torts, employees’ damages, criminal defense, juvenile law, and household law. He continued to operate as a solo practitioner till his appointment as a District Court Judge in July 2022, marking a notable transition in his profession. Judge Tiefenthaler is licensed to practice regulation in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. His federal court admissions include the U.S.
District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa, the District of Nebraska, and the District of South Dakota. He is an active member of numerous professional organizations, which includes the Iowa State Bar Association, Nebraska State Bar Association, and the State Bar of South Dakota. His involvement extends to the Iowa Association for Justice, the place he served on the Board of Governors and the Criminal Law Core Group, demonstrating his commitment to the legal network. In addition to his expert achievements, Judge Tiefenthaler is dedicated to public service work. He has volunteered as a formative years basketball coach with Sioux City Westside Connection, emphasizing his perception in giving again to the network. This involvement helps his fostering positive improvement amongst younger humans within the area.
Outside of his professional and community endeavors, Judge Tiefenthaler enjoys a satisfying household lifestyles. He is married and is the proud father of two children, as well as a grandparent to 6 grandchildren. Balancing his profession and family responsibilities, he exemplifies a dedication to both his profession and his loved ones.
