About Robert James
Robert James Engel graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 1979. Those years framed an early interest within the felony justice system and set the course for an extended profession in Michigan law.
Shortly after earning his Juris Doctor, Engel was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1979. He began his legal work as a prosecutor, handling criminal matters for a nearby jurisdiction. That early courtroom experience uncovered him to case preparation, witness handling and the pressures of trial work. It also gave him a view of felony cases from the authorities aspect.
Over the years Engel remained lively in expert circles. He joined the Emmet Charlevoix Bar Association in 1985 and later became affiliated with the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Michigan in 2010. He has maintained membership in the State Bar of Michigan since his admission. Those institutions were the venues for ongoing legal training and peer interplay through which he stayed recent on modifications in felony law.

Today, Engel stays an active Michigan practitioner. He advocates for individuals in felony things across state courts and draws on both his prosecutorial background and private practice knowledge to advise and constitute clients. He currently focuses his practice on felony defense in Michigan.
