Rick Farrow studied at College of the Ozarks before earning his J.D. from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 1993. He completed law program at a time when the legal panorama was moving, and he entered the career with a Juris Doctor and a continuous sense of aim. The aggregate of a small-college undergraduate background and a metropolitan law school gave him a mixture of perspectives.
He later moved into public defense. In 2001 he worked as a trial lawyer within the Missouri Public Defender's Office, Trial Division.
