Michael A. Hackard started his legal trail at California State University, Sacramento, the place he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1972. He finished his legal education on the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1976. Those years set the stage for a long profession in private practice across more than one states.

Outside the courtroom, Hackard took on a public-dealing with position in 2008 when he served as spokesman for the Homebuilders Coalition for Responsible Bank Behavior, a position he held into 2009.
