About Matthew S.

Matthew S. Schrum practices law in North Carolina and has concentrated his profession on senior law and estate making plans. He began practicing within the field within the early 2010s and has steadily constructed a practice that serves older adults, households, and caregivers throughout the state.

Schrum labored as a senior law and estate planning lawyer at Four Pillars Law Office in 2011. Six years later he opened his own company, Evergreen Estate Planning & Elder Law, the place he serves as lawyer and owner. He handles traditional estate making plans tasks—drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney and advance directives—and guides clients through the practical steps of implementing the ones files.

He earned accreditation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 2013, a credential that lets in him to help veterans and their surviving household members with VA advantages and claims. He also advises on Medicaid planning and long-term care techniques. His practice routinely addresses conservatorship and conservatorship matters, special needs planning, and estate administration administration for estates of various complexity.

Schrum maintains memberships in numerous professional and community organizations. He has been a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 2012 and joined ElderCounsel in 2018. Since 2021 he has taken part within the NCBA Elder & Special Needs Law Council. Locally, he serves on the board of the Yadkin Valley United Fund, a position he assumed in 2018, and he joined the Hugh Chatham Health Foundation board in 2021. He has been active within the Yadkin Valley Rotary Club since 2017. Those roles reflect a curiosity in public service work alongside his legal work.

In practice he balances client-dealing with work with organizational involvement. Day to day he meets with clients, drafts legal files, and coordinates with monetary and health care professionals to place plans into effect. He advocates for clients at proceedings when necessary and prepares the estate settlement work that follows a demise or incapacity.

Schrum continues to lead Evergreen Estate Planning & Elder Law in North Carolina, the place he practices elder law and estate planning and assists veterans and households with benefits and long-term care planning.
