About Kent
Kent Leier earned his bachelor's diploma in political science and government from the University of North Dakota in 2001. He went on to complete his J.D. at the University of Montana School of Law in 2005. Those years grounded him in public law and the realistic aspect of legal work.
He started his profession at Colorado Legal Services in 2005. That position exposed him to a broad range of civil issues and client wants. In 2007 he moved into public prosecution work, serving as a deputy district lawyer in the Weld County District Lawyer's Office. The experience gave him courtroom time and familiarity with criminal casework. In 2013 he opened The Leier Law Office, LLC and shifted his practice into private representation.
Leier is certified in Colorado and Montana. He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and to the Tenth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to handle things in both state and federal venues. Over the years he has appeared in a selection of forums, from county courthouses to federal dockets.
His work records spans civil legal aid and felony prosecution. That combination informs how he approaches cases. Having labored at Colorado Legal Services, he understands civil litigation and client advocacy in noncriminal things. His time on the Weld County office supplied direct knowledge in felony proceedings and court practice. His memberships reflect those interests: Colorado Bar Association (since 2005), Colorado Criminal Defense Bar (since 2013), Denver Bar Association, Larimer County Bar Association and Montana Bar Association.
