About Kelsey
Kelsey Black came to regulation after a conventional path through college and law program. She earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2003 and completed her J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 2007. Those years set the framework for a continuous climb through personal practice.
She began her professional legal career in 2008 as an associate at Flynn Wirkus. The position positioned her on day-to-day client work and developed her capacity to manage filings, hearings and negotiations. In 2010 she moved to Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold LLP. That stint broadened her publicity to the demands of a larger company environment and the coordination such work calls for.
In 2013 she became a shareholder at Waterway Black P.A. Her title reflects the firm’s partnership shape and her position in its control. As a shareholder she has taken on duties that go beyond casework. Those responsibilities include supervising junior attorneys and collaborating in company choice-making. She also continues to manage client matters for my part and to seem where needed in state boards.
Black is admitted in two jurisdictions. She has been a member of the Massachusetts bar since 2007 and joined the Florida bar in 2010. She maintains lively membership in both state bars. That dual admission shapes how she accepts and manages things, and it calls for attention to differing procedural and substantive rules.
Colleagues describe her fashion as realistic and methodical. She has a tendency to interrupt complicated problems into discrete steps and to press for clean milestones. Her dossier management displays that approach. She favors early case assessment and regular attorney-client communication. She also mentors newer lawyers at her company and participates in internal education efforts.
Outside of courtrooms and company conferences, Black’s history shows steady professional development. She has moved from associate roles into company management roles over the course of a decade and a half. She has labored in both smaller firm settings and large countrywide systems. That variety of experience informs how she handles conflicts, staffing and legal strategy.
She practices from Waterway Black P.A. and continues to control matters that involve each Florida and Massachusetts law. Her current practice makes a speciality of matters arising beneath Florida and Massachusetts law.
