Gilberto Oliver earned his Juris Doctor from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 1995, after starting his legal studies in 1991. His law program years coincided with a period of change in local practice, and the diploma prepared him for both court work and the procedural demands of notarial responsibilities in Puerto Rico.

He released his professional profession in 1996 as an associate at McConnell Valdés.
