Charles A. Miller started his legal journey after completing a liberal arts education at the University of New Mexico, the place he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1968. He moved east for law school and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1974. During his time at Harvard, he worked with the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, gaining early experience in client representation and practical legal work.

The Harvard Legal Aid Bureau marked an early turning factor. It exposed him to the realistic demands of advocating for people facing real legal problems. Those years shaped how he approached facts and counsel. After receiving his J.D. he entered the career at a time of change within the legal panorama. He started working as an attorney within the mid-1970s, a duration when courts and legal institutions have been adapting to new laws and moving public expectations.

His career spans numerous decades. Over that time he labored in traditional roles for lawyers: advising clients, conducting bargaining sessions, making ready filings and acting in proceedings.
