He also belongs to the Indiana Bar Association, the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Hamilton County Bar Association. Those affiliations recommend sustained involvement in each statewide and countrywide legal conversations, especially where rising technology and law meet.

His background in environmental engineering informs his legal work. The engineering education teaches awareness to technical element and a methodical way of approaching regulatory and factual problems. That perspective can be useful when cases involve technical history, regulatory schemes or detailed factual reconstructions. At the identical time, participation within the Cyberspace Law Committee factors to a curiosity in legal questions tied to technology, information and online exercise.

Over the years Powers has balanced work in large company settings and solo practice. He handled things as an attorney at Taft early in his career and later transitioned to operating his personal workplace.
