About Anne Margaret

Anne Margaret Voigts is a licensed attorney licensed to practice law in California. She used to be licensed to the California State Bar in 2002. Her license is currently in lively standing. Ms. Voigts is a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, a law firm located in Palo Alto, California. She has been working as an attorney for over two decades, serving clients across the state and beyond.

Ms. Voigts earned her law degree degree from Columbia Law School in 1999. During her time at Columbia, she served because the Executive Articles Editor of the Columbia Law Review. Prior to law school, she finished her undergraduate education at Yale University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts diploma in 1992. After law school, she clerked for Judge Stephen Reinhardt at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice John Paul Stevens at the U.S. highest court. She also externed for then-Judge Sonia Sotomayor on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Ms. Voigts focuses on appellate litigation, representing clients in both federal and state appellate courts. Her practice encompasses a wide range of issues, including antitrust, copyright, and the False Claims Act. She has argued over 70 cases in appellate courts and has knowledge in all facets of appellate practice, which includes serving as regular counsel at complex websites. She additionally often advises trial teams on legal matters and motion practice, before, during, and after trial, and counsels clients on rapidly changing, complicated legal issues. She is a Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and has particular knowledge associated with appeals and crucial motions in class movements and associated with cybersecurity and privateness issues.

Throughout her profession, Ms. Voigts has treated instances before the United States Supreme Court, the California highest court, and federal and state appellate and trial courts. She has been acknowledged by Chambers USA in Litigation: Appellate (California) from 2020 to 2025. She has also been recognized as a "Northern California Super Lawyer in Litigation" and named a Top Woman of California by the Daily Journal in 2021 and 2022. In 2023, she received the Human Trafficking Legal Center’s Advocate of the Year award for her extraordinary amicus short work in civil trafficking cases over many years.

Ms. Voigts is an active member of numerous expert organizations. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and serves on the Advisory Board to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She has formerly served as a member of the California Lawyer’s Association’s Committee on Appellate Courts and as a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Amicus Briefs. She has taught appellate advocacy at USC Gould School of Law and the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center. She frequently speaks on developments in highest court and Ninth Circuit case regulation, privateness regulation, which includes the California Consumer Privacy Act, and powerful legal writing, and has participated on panels at Stanford’s Rock Center Directors’ College, the Ingram Inn of Court, and the California Lawyers Association, amongst others.
