About Alec

Alec Duffy studied political science and legal research at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire before earning his J.D. from Mitchell Hamline School of Law in 2019. He moved thru law program roles that exposed him to courtroom practice and client advocacy. Those early experiences shaped his approach to casework and courtroom preparation.

After law program he spent time operating in prosecutorial settings. In 2020 he served as a Certified Student Lawyer on the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office. That role placed him in the middle of charging selections and litigation preparation. It additionally gave him a firsthand view of how prosecutors construct cases.

In 2021 he joined North Star Criminal Defense as an associate. There he stepped into defense practice, taking over client interviews, motions practice, and trial help. The transition from a prosecutor’s workplace to a protection company provided a different perspective on legal proceedings approach. He treated things throughout criminal calendar dockets and discovered the mechanics of plea bargaining sessions and court advocacy.

In 2023 he launched his own practice, Duffy Defense PLLC. He based the company to provide direct representation in felony matters and related hearings. Running a small firm required taking on both casework and the business tasks that keep a practice running. He continues to handle client intake, legal strategy, filings, and court appearances.

Duffy is certified to practice in Minnesota. His practical background spans time on each sides of the aisle in criminal court. That knowledge informs how he evaluates proof, prepares witnesses, and engages opposing counsel. He handles pretrial motions, contested hearings, and jury trials, and he locations emphasis on clean verbal exchange with clients about alternatives and likely results.

Colleagues and clients have encountered him in arraignment dockets, pretrial conferences, and trial calendars. He has worked on misdemeanor and criminal matters and on procedural issues that occur in criminal litigation. Outside of legal proceedings, he manages the executive and moral duties that running a small firm calls for.

He keeps professional memberships and remains active in nearby legal circles. He balances court work with the realistic needs of practice management. He practices criminal protection and related matters at Duffy Defense PLLC.
